As we look back across the years, certain threads remain consistent. From the beginning, Tropical Sands Christian Church has been a community devoted to the inclusive love of God revealed through the gospel of Jesus Christ. That love has taken many different forms through the decades, shaped by the needs of each season and the people who gathered here.

One question churches sometimes ask themselves is this: If this church were no longer serving its physical ministry, who would miss it?

At Tropical Sands, we don’t have to wonder. Countless people have shared how much this church has meant to them, regardless of how long they were part of the community. Many of those voices now live far away, having relocated to other places and new chapters of life. Yet their memories remain deeply connected to what they experienced here.

Two themes came up again and again in what people shared. First, that this congregation truly tried to live what it proclaimed—that we love like Jesus, and that all people are included and belong without conditions or disclaimers. Many people have said that Tropical Sands became a place of healing for them, especially if they had nearly walked away from church altogether.

The second theme people named was the outreach that grew through the log cabin and the recovery ministries that have been part of this space for over 40 years. Today, more than thirty recovery support groups use this campus each week. In total, well over seven hundred people pass through these doors weekly, seeking connection, encouragement, and hope. Some who are counted in this total attend multiple groups throughout the week, which only highlights how vital this community of support has become.

The log cabin itself was built in 1981 originally as a youth space. Yet almost from the beginning, it became something more. Both the cabin and the fellowship hall were shared regularly with local social service agencies and support groups. The peaceful grounds of the church, including the orchid courtyard, also became a place where people could pause, breathe, and experience a sense of calm and welcome.   

This community outreach would not have been possible without the countless leaders and volunteers who served faithfully here. Generations of elders, board members, deacons, teachers, musicians, and hospitality teams gave their time, energy, and hearts.

As faithful, prayerful stewards, we look to the even greater good and amazing future impact and legacy that Tropical Sands will be a part of through the important missions of the Regional Church, Retreat Center, missions for children & youth, and, of course, the Recovery mission.

And through it all, the people of Tropical Sands continued the covenant first made in 1958: to follow Christ together and to share the good news and love of Jesus with this community. And the love that has shaped this holy space continues to live on in all who carry that story forward.
